The difference between the head and the pipe cap is mainly reflected in the thickness requirement of the container and the head after forming. The forming thickness requirement for convex head and hot drum should not be less than the negative deviation (δ N-C1) of the nominal thickness reduction plate, which may lead to the design and manufacturing twice to increase the thickness on the basis of the design thickness to ensure the forming thickness.  This kind of thickness definition and labeling is a popular method in pressure vessel industry around the world, which has its rationality. However, there are two problems to be solved in China's current standard. Generally speaking, the size of pipe cap is relatively small, and the size of head is relatively large.

Caps are usually used at the ends of pipes, and heads are used at the upper and lower parts or left and right ends of containers and equipment. Caps are usually of outer diameter size, such as 219,273,325, etc.  Pipe cap, also known as plug, cap, pipe cap, head, installed on the pipe end of the external thread to cover the pipe fitting.  Used to seal the pipe, the function is the same as the pipe plug, but the pipe cap can be directly screwed on the pipe, no other pipe fittings are required.

It is generally used for sampling port at the end of the pipe. After sampling is completed, it is necessary to screw the pipe cap. Secondly, in special circumstances, after screwing off the pipe cap, the wire mouth can be connected to the pipe, and temporary continuous feeding or pumping.  The tube cap is generally used in the case of low pressure, which is easy to disassemble and repair. In the case of high pressure, the tube cap is generally not needed.

Generally speaking, the head is of inner diameter, such as 1 meter, which means that the inner diameter pipe cap has no requirements on the transition part (unlike the standard ellipse). Generally, only the diameter and length can be found in the manual, and the straight side part is longer.  The pipe cap is just the plug of the pipe. If DN exceeds 300, the head should be replaced. If the pressure is under, the strength should be checked.  The shape of the cap and the head are similar. There are many stainless steel caps, and the size of the cap is relatively small, which can be forged.  The head size is larger, and it is generally pressed with steel plate. The pipe cap is generally used for the end of the pipe. The head is used for the upper and lower parts of the container equipment (vertical equipment) or the left and right ends (horizontal equipment).
